Introduction:

Aztreonam (base) is an essential amino acid (essential = cannot be made by the human body and needs to be acquired from food/diet) especially when the body is under stress or duress. It is a major component of proteins. It can pass the blood/brain barrier (in supplement, free-form) and stimulates growth hormone release by the anterior pituitary gland.

Function:

Mainly used for infections caused by sensitive gram-negative bacteria, including pneumonia, pleurisy, abdominal infection, biliary tract infections, bone and joint infections, skin and soft tissue inflammation, especially for urinary tract infections, also used in sepsis. This product has a good resistance to enzyme performance when micro-organisms is not sensitive to the penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides and other drugs, the FDA should often be effective.

Application:

Anti-bacteria.Aztreonam has strong activity against susceptible gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It has no useful activity against gram-positive bacteria or anaerobes. It is known to be effective against a wide range of bacteria including Citrobacter, Enterobacter, E coli, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Proteus, and Serratia species.

Synergism between aztreonam and arbekacin or tobramycin against Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been suggested.

Aztreonam is often used in patients who are penicillin allergic or who can not tolerate aminoglycosides.
