N,N-Dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal is White to off-white liquid. The hydroxyl of formic acid is replaced by a dimethylamine to form a compound. When heated to above 350 ℃ in air namely decomposition, carbon monoxide and dimethylamine. N, n-dimethylformamide is a very good aprotic polar solvent that dissolves most organic and inorganic substances. Many ionotypic reactions occur more readily in N, n-dimethylformamide than in ordinary protic solvents. For example, at room temperature, carboxylates react with halogenated hydrocarbons in N, n-dimethylformamide to produce ester with high yield.

Function&Application

N, N-dimethylformamide is an excellent solvent for a variety of high polymers, such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylonitrile and polyamide, which is widely used in plastic film making, paint, fiber and other industries. It can also be used as a paint remover. It dissolves certain low - solubility pigments, making them characteristic of dyes. N, N - dimethylformamide can also be used as an effective reagent for the separation of non-hydrocarbon components from paraffin. The solubility of p-terephthalic acid and m-phthalic acid has good selectivity and can be separated in N, N- dimethylformamide.
