Berberine is a quaternary ammonium salt from the protoberberine group of isoquinoline alkaloids. It is found in such plants as
Berberis (e.g. Berberis aquifolium (Oregon grape), Berberis vulgaris (Barberry), and Berberis aristata (Tree Turmeric)), Hydrastis
canadensis (Goldenseal), Phellodendron amurense (Amur Cork Tree, Huang Bai, Huang Po, Po Mu) and Coptis chinensis (Chinese
Goldthread, Huang-Lian, Huang-Lien), and Tinospora cordifolia, and to a smaller extent in Argemone mexicana (Prickly Poppy) and
Eschscholzia californica (Californian Poppy). Berberine is usually found in the roots, rhizomes, stems, and bark

Function:

1. This product has recently found that anti-arrhythmic effect. Berberine on hemolytic streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus,

Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Freund, Shigella dysenteriae have antibacterial effect, and enhances white blood cell phagocytosis.

2. Berberine hydrochloride (commonly known as berberine) has been widely used to treat gastroenteritis, bacillary dysentery and so
on, tuberculosis, scarlet fever, acute tonsillitis and respiratory infections also have a certain effect.

Application:

1. It is used against asthma, diarrhoea, cholera, verminosis and gastralgia dyspepsia

2. It is used in lumbago, hysteria, dyspepsia and worm affection.

3. It is used as surfactant and used for washing hairs and fabrics.
